Student success story: Folakemi Seun Adeosun

Folakemi Seuon Adeosun

How Folakemi, a Pathstream graduate launched a tech career in the U.S. and started using Salesforce for the American Red Cross.

“There was a connection and relationship with the instructor that I didn’t have when taking a course on other platforms. Having someone you can connect with when you have a problem makes your work online much easier.”

Folakemi Seun Adeosun studied microbiology as an undergraduate and then pursued a Masters in Business Administration at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ife, Nigeria. She worked as a Humanitarian Administrator for an NGO that helped poor families access education, vocational training and medical treatment for the uninsured.

When she moved to the United States and settled in the Atlanta are she was eager to restart her career and was intrigued by the world of tech because she always loved tinkering with laptops and her phone. She thought that a career in IT could be exciting. Folakemi started a class on Amazon Web Services and began learning about cloud computing. “I realized my love for cloud computing, but wanted more than Cloud Architecture, my passion is combining technology with customer service,” she explained. So she started to seek out other options.

Her close friend told her about Salesforce and how passing the Salesforce Administrator Certification exam could unlock new job opportunities. Folakemi was intrigued and decided to seek out training programs. She started by purchasing courses and videos online, but later realized she needed something more supported and personalized that would truly help her learn to use Salesforce.

When she came across the Salesforce Administrator Career Certificate program from Emory, she was thrilled. Pursuing a degree from Emory had always been one of her dreams, and she loved the idea of taking a practical Salesforce training program through a trusted institution. When she started the program, she quickly realized that it would offer her a better learning experience than the other options.

“The most helpful thing about the program from Pathstream and Emory was that it introduced the context and the vocabulary I needed to understand what the Salesforce ecosystem meant,” she explained, “The other courses I had taken never really established the big picture about what the career opportunities were in Salesforce and why you would need to learn all of these things. I really learned the language and context I needed to understand the possible applications for Salesforce when I came to Emory and Pathstream. The program started by introducing Customer Relationship Management systems in general and then got into Salesforce Administrator applications and I had the right context established to really understand it all, because everything was broken down in a way that wouldn’t be difficult for anyone to understand. It was very easy to learn! I can truly say the program was excellent. I could see the quality in the way the courses were outlined, arranged, and would recommend it to anybody.”

“I had the ability to interact with and access my instructor, unlike on other platforms” Folakemi continued, “With the Emory and Pathstream program, I could email my instructor with a problem and get a response. There was a connection and relationship with the instructor that I didn’t have when taking other courses. Having someone you can connect with when you have a problem makes your work online much easier. Because if you don’t have an answer to a question, time is wasted and productivity is lost.”

Folakemi also liked the way that the Pathstream and Emory program integrated with Salesforce Trailhead, but provided additional context. “The lessons are linked in such a way that they directly connected to Trailhead,” she explained.

Folakemi graduated from the program with an aggregate grade of 97%, prepped for the Salesforce Administrator Exam, and passed on her first try. She also began working with a Pathstream Career Coach and found an internship opportunity with her local American Red Cross office, as part of Fundraising Data and Salesforce Team and recently completed a major national project using salesforce.com.

She is happy that she’s found a way to use her new Salesforce skills to support humanitarian causes. “I had always wanted to work for the Red Cross since age ten, she said, “ I am glad I can now use my Salesforce skills to support their work, combatting disasters across the world.”
